Tips for Showing

Do you have any great times for the show ring?  Please send them to us!  We would love to share them with others!

Tips for grooming your horse

  • Make sure your show halter and lead are clean and FIT your horse.
  • Stock Horses ~ Trim and band the mane. Quik Braid is wonderful for keeping your braids or bands from slipping. After banding, use a little dab of V05 Hair Dressing on the off side of your bands to help with flyaway hairs.  Use just a little or hair will look greasy.
  • For super shiny hooves~ Sand the hooves, use hoof polish then Ultra Hoof Polish Enhancer.  Let dry completely!!
  • Spray Pam onto the bottom of the hoof to allow shavings, etc to just fall off!
  • Shapley Colored Touchup Sprays are great for making black legs "pop" on a bay or buckskin or making white looking white.  Also good for covering an old scar.
  • Want to make the face shiney ~ Use Quik Sheen, Ultra Face Highlighter,or Grand Champion face enhancer.  Horse must be closely clipped or he's look fuzzy once face enhancer of any kind is applied.
  • Dab a little baby oil gel on the chestnuts to make them look supple and a little on the bridle path to get rid of any flakes.
  • Use gloves (latex work great) to keep hoof polish off of your hands!  Ultra Hoof Polish Remover will remove hoof polish from just about anything.
  • To help shine a horse use Pepi, Ultra Final Touch Shining Spray or Healthy Hair Cair
  • After the bath, rub Cowboy Magic Detangler on the horses legs.  When dry, the hair will be much easier to clip.
  • What to carry in your ring side touch up bag ~ Brushes, towels, flyspray, lint roller (for removing horse hair from show clothes), braiding bands, razor or touch up clippers....
